Dr Laura Gilbert – Chief Technical Officer

I lead the information technology team at OneMedicalTechnologies (formerly Rescon Technologies), leading a team of inspirational and talented developers in building health and wellbeing related web platforms. I am fluent in a wide variety of programming languages. I lead the technical delivery of scientific research projects, including a diverse range of topics such as detecting likely injury in athletes before it occurs, building algorithms to detect rhythm anomalies in heart beats "on the fly", and analysing and visualising cycles of interacting genes inside cells. I focus on creating novel, informative and scientifically robust ways to analyse variable datasets, and I am passionate about communicating the value of to informatively and accurately interpreting statistics – I love a complex puzzle. I hold a doctorate in Particle Physics and GRID computing from the University of Oxford, and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. I have worked as an academic researcher in Particle Physics at Oxford, where I also held a number of lectureships as well as student welfare positions. Prior to my doctorate I worked for the UK Ministry of Defence as an analyst where I held top secret clearances and interpreted complex signals. After I left academia I spent four years as a quantitative analyst in hedge funds, developing predictive analytics tools that covered the span of long term behaviour, very high frequency automated trading, market sentiment analysis and even using genetic algorithms to predict how an evolving market might behave, before deciding that I was better suited to a job that focused more on improving lives. I love my work! Outside of work I am an athlete and I have represented Great Britain seven times in Savate Kickboxing. My highest international rankings being fourth in the world and third in Europe. I am currently on the British team and I run a club in Hampshire. I spent four years as Director of Technique for the Great Britain Savate Federation, and I am now in my third two-year term as President. I live in Hampshire with my husband Tom, three year old daughter Allegra, one year old son Felix, 3 meerkats, 2 prairie dogs, a skunk, a fennec fox, 3 sugar gliders, 2 cusimanses, 4 chickens and a varying number of fish. My family (including furry ones) are my world. I enjoy playing classical piano and singing, mainly jazz, and regularly attempt to become fluent in French and Arabic with close to no success! I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream to acquire a harp and I am excitedly waiting for it to arrive!
