A statement in relation to Field House Surgery, Bridlington
OneMedicalGroup has given notice on its contract for the provision of primary care services at Field House Surgery in Bridlington from the end of the calendar year.
This does not mean the practice is closing.
It has been a very difficult decision for OneMedicalGroup as we have been committed to helping Field House Surgery, which was already facing significant challenges when we took over the contract two years ago. Over this period our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to provide a sustainable solution for the practice.
The shortage of GPs and nurses in the wider area and nationally is not a new issue and we have raised our concerns about the staffing to our local commissioners. For the past two years, we have invested heavily in the service utilising the wider group’s resources and implementing innovative techniques, such as remote GP access, with the aim of delivering a sustainable long-term solution for the Field House Surgery.
In April of this year we submitted a bid for the Vulnerable Practice Fund, supported by the CCG, to NHS England. This included a new multi-disciplinary team approach to address the shortage of GPs in the area. We have also strived to work with local practices and are a member of the BridInc federation, however they too are under significant pressure and no workable solutions have been forthcoming.
It is with regret that despite all of these efforts and a recognition of the pressure the practice is under, the political and economic landscape for healthcare services in Bridlington and nationally has made it impossible for us to continue to deliver a sustainable service for patients.
As an organisation however, we remain committed to supporting staff and patients.
The future provision of care for Field House Surgery patients is a matter for NHS England and East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group. However OneMedicalGroup has proactively worked with local partners to identify another potential provider to take over the practice and continue serving the patients.
We are working with NHS England and NHS East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group to ensure an orderly solution for patients and staff. In the interim, our practice team are working extremely hard to continue providing a safe service to our patients.
Please keep reading for official statements from the commissioners of the service.
