Sheffield City NHS Walk-in Centre and Broad Lane Medical Centre launch Support and Advice Hub
Broad Lane Medical Centre and the Sheffield City NHS Walk-in Centre are to develop a new model for patient education facilities as they launch a Support and Advice Hub as part of continued improvements to patient services in the area.
The revamped Support and Advice Hub will officially launch in December to aid with health choices over winter. It was developed following successful trials of a facility within the centres which offered health education and signposting services. The new and improved hub will offer additional facilities where a patient adviser will be on hand to help patients develop their own healthcare needs using new technologies, peer support networks and community activities. They will also offer a schedule of support groups and drop in sessions with local community and voluntary sector groups.
Chief Executive of OneMedicalGroup, Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, operators of the walk-in centres commented: “We want to be proactive about working with the local community and empowering patients to take control of their own health and wellbeing, and educating them about what services are available. We are now calling on volunteers and groups around Sheffield to support the new Support and Advice Hub which will provide the community with an instant resource to aid healthcare choices and help patients access the correct services and care.”
Steve Kirk, Business Manager for the medical centres said: “Patients are now able to improve their wellbeing and health via the hub which is especially important over the winter period. It really empowers patients to take control of their own health and wellbeing by ensuring they’re choosing to access the right care, first time.”
As part of a UK wide initiative to provide local communities with resources to support health and well-being, OneMedicalGroup, will roll out the patient Support and Advice Hubs in their centres across the UK, with the Sheffield site being one of the first in their portfolio to house the hub.
